Mean, Median & Mode Calculator
Paste any list of numbers to get the mean (average), median (middle value), mode and sum.
Enter some numbers to see the mean, median and mode.
Formula
Mean = Σx ÷ n · Median = middle value of the sorted data · Mode = most frequent value
How to calculate
- 1Sort your numbers from smallest to largest.
- 2Mean: add every value and divide by how many there are.
- 3Median: take the middle value — with an even count, average the two middle values.
- 4Mode: the value that appears most often; there can be several modes, or none at all.
How to use this calculator
- 1Paste or type your numbers, separated by commas or spaces.
- 2The mean, median and mode update live as you edit.
- 3No need to sort — the calculator does it for you.
- 4Works with grades, prices, times or any list of numbers.
Examples
Small data set
2, 4, 4, 10 → mean 5, median 4, mode 4 — three different averages of the same data.
Even count
1, 3, 5, 7 → mean 4, median 5 (average of 3 and 7), and no mode since nothing repeats.
Common questions
Which average should I use?
Use the mean for symmetric data, the median when outliers distort it (incomes, house prices), and the mode when you want the most common value.
Why is my median so different from my mean?
A few extreme values pull the mean toward them while the median stays put — a classic sign your data is skewed.
Can there be more than one mode?
Yes — if two values tie for most frequent the data is bimodal, and if every value appears once there is no mode at all.
