Formula
BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)² — imperial: BMI = 703 × weight (lb) ÷ height (in)²
How to calculate
- 1Use metric units (kg and m) or the imperial form directly — both give the same number.
- 2Square your height: multiply it by itself (1.75 m → 3.0625).
- 3Divide your weight by the squared height (70 ÷ 3.0625 = 22.9).
- 4Compare the result to the ranges: under 18.5 underweight, 18.5–24.9 normal, 25–29.9 overweight, 30+ obese.
